Toronto, ON, October 21, 2025
The Government of Canada, through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), recently announced an investment of more than $1 million in Tailored Genes Inc., a Canadian company specializing in viral vector production for gene therapy. This funding will allow the Canadian biotech company to significantly expand its operations in the Greater Toronto Area and establish a fully GMP-compliant (Good Manufacturing Practice) facility, taking Canada’s impact on health services to a new level.
Tailored Genes plays a critical role in advancing gene therapy research for academic institutions and biotech companies by developing and manufacturing custom viral vectors, “safe” viruses that serve as vehicles to deliver therapeutic genes.
These viral vectors are instrumental in treating rare diseases affecting the blood, muscles, brain, and eyes, and are a key tool in engineering white blood cells to fight cancer.
With this new investment, Tailored Genes will quadruple their Research and Development capacity and enable the launch of manufacturing for clinical trials.
This means faster access to specialized tools, expertise, and domestic manufacturing capacity for Canadian researchers, biotech companies, and gene therapy startups. By scaling its operations, Tailored Genes is helping to turn discoveries into real-world treatments more quickly.
What Leaders Are Saying
“Together, we are helping clinicians get faster access to the next generation of medical innovation and treatments to improve lives. By investing in local companies like Tailored Genes Inc., our government is addressing a critical gap for domestic biotech manufacturing to ensure that we have the needed tools and space to bolster Canada’s world-class life science sector and build a more resilient future.”
— The Honourable Evan Solomon, Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario
“This investment is great news for Concord and Canada’s biotech and life sciences sector. Tailored Genes Inc. is doing incredible work, and this new facility will help them to advance life-saving treatments and strengthen our community’s role in Canada’s health innovation ecosystem.”
— The Honourable Judy Sgro, Member of Parliament for Humber River–Black Creek
“This funding represents more than growth for our company, it’s a signal of confidence in Canadian innovation. With this support, we’re expanding our capacity to serve academic researchers, biotech startups, and global pharmaceutical partners. Our new facility is built to support the next generation of breakthroughs, and we’re proud to do that work here in the GTA.”
— Dr. Chetan Tailor, Founder and CEO, Tailored Genes Inc.
